After police sent out a press release Thursday about the attacks, Chico State University officials forwarded the release to all students and faculty.
In the most recent attack on Saturday, a college age woman was walking home alone in the early morning near West Eighth and Cherry streets when she was grabbed and forced into a vehicle. The man sexually assaulted her.
"How does it make me feel if our students are being targeted and attacked?" University President Paul Zingg said. "How do you think it makes me feel!? Angry, determined to stop these attacks, more determined than ever to help our students be aware of their surroundings and behavior that might add to their vulnerability, disgusted with those individuals who prey on our students, determined to find them and get them off our streets and out of our community. That's how I feel."
Four of the 10 involved a newer or nice black BMW or Lexus. Detectives noticed similarities in the assaults and looked back on attacks and sexual crimes since summer of last year, Franssen said. They are investigating the cases and are asking for the public's help in solving the crimes and preventing others.
Last year on Sept. near West Eighth and Hazel streets and sprayed a young woman in the face with pepper spray and pushed her down. She fought him off and escaped. He is described as a white man in his 20s, about 6 feet tall, weighing 170 pounds with a fair complexion. The vehicle was a small, nice, newer model black sedan, possibly a Honda or a BMW. on Sept. 18, 2011, a college aged woman was walking near East Fifth and Flume streets when a man got out of a parked car and started running toward her. He sprayed her with pepper spray. She started screaming and he fled in the car. He is described as white, in his early 20s, 6 feet tall, weighing 170 pounds. He had a nice, newer model black sedan.
described as Hispanic, in his late 20s, with thick brown buzz cut hair and tattoos on his neck. Both were wearing dark blue uniforms with silver breast pocket buttons, yellow and blue shoulder patches with "Police" on them, but no badges on the front or utility belts. The car was similar to a Mercury Marquis with black spotlights on the sides. Jan. 13, a college aged woman near West Third and Orange streets was grabbed and pulled into a van. She screamed and was released without being sexually assaulted. She believed there were other young males in the van.

On Aug. 26, three males in a vehicle grabbed a college aged woman at Ray's Liquor on Nord Avenue, pulled her into the car and took her to a location where she was sexually assaulted. One suspect was described as an 18 year old white man, one an 18 year old Hispanic man and one unknown male. They were in a newer, two door black Lexus or similar car. May 19, a young woman was walking home near West Third and Cedar streets when a man exited a parked car, grabbed her and forced her into the back seat. Another suspect was in the driver's seat. The woman screamed and fought and was able to escape. Both suspects were wearing masks and the vehicle was described as a smaller car.
"We want to catch this person," Franssen said.
The police sergeant said young, drunken women alone are more likely to become victimized.
"If you hook up with somebody at a party, make sure you go home with the people you came with, and meet this new person at a coffee shop the next day," Loomis said.
The suspect was described as in his late 20s to 30s, weighing more than 200 pounds, muscular with short dark hair. His race is unknown. He was in a newer black BMW or similar four door car.
Rape Crisis counselor Loomis agrees with police that college aged women are targeted.
Police arrested one man in one case, Franssen said.
CHICO They were vulnerable most were college students, walking home alone in the dark, having consumed alcohol and predators took advantage.
"If it doesn't seem right, there's probably a good chance that it's not," Franssen said.
He said to ask for identification from people claiming to be police officers.
On Sept. 1, a young woman reported she was walking home after midnight and someone approached her and told her he was a police officer. He restrained her, put her in a car and later released her without sexually assaulting her. He was described as white, tall, with dark hair.
The sergeant asked that if anyone sees a suspicious black BMW or Lexus driving around to take a photo of the license plate with their camera phone, or write down the license plate number and then contact police. People can contact the department with information at 897 4900.
"It's devastating sexual abuse is unlike any other crime in the world," Rape Crisis Intervention and Prevention counselor Yvonne Loomis said. "It takes that self away from you. It takes the core."
"Don't be by yourself, travel in groups, look out for each other and keep alcohol consumption to a reasonable level so you're less vulnerable," Franssen said.
On Jan. 29 near West Fourth and Hazel streets, a man grabbed an intimate part of a college aged woman's body. She screamed and he fled but he was soon caught by police. John Satterfield, 46, was convicted of the crime. He had a black Ford Mustang.

Loomis said if people go to a party, she recommended going with friends and leaving with them. Even if students are with a good group of friends, there may be someone there watching.
"Perpetrators are looking for vulnerable," Loomis said.
On Jan. 27, two men approached a woman at West Fifth and Orange streets and said they were with law enforcement. Through extortion, they persuaded her into sex acts and then let her go.
