The ordinance prohibits the advertisement, possession, use, purchase, or distribution of bath salts and synthetic cannabinoids (commonly known as "Spice" or "K2"), and other synthetic drugs.

Those who violate the ban in Anderson and Greenville counties will face a $500 fine for each day that violation continues.

Greenwood County passed a first reading of a permanent bath salts ordinance Tuesday. There will be two more readings, one that will include a public hearing.
Council members in Greenville, Anderson and Greenwood counties approved the ban unanimously.
The coroner said it was triggered by a synthetic drug that mimics the effects of marijuana.
In Greenwood County, the fine jumps to $1,095 for those who violate the ban.
