The Lingle girls added titles from sophomores Kylah Meyer (triple jump) and Shaylee Rickard (discus) to take a commanding lead in the team race; second place Upton claimed the girls 400 relay title. Lingle also holds the lead in Air Huarache Camo

the boys team race. Cokeville sophomores Kaylie Moyes and Jonathan Fiscus swept the 800 races.

Mancuso couldn't clear 6 9, but didn't get any help from mother nature. During his attempt at 6 5 his old record a rabbit ran onto the approach area and it took some time for officials to chase it away. Then, the last weather front to move through the stadium forced him to jump through wind and rain during his attempts at 6 9.

"I just finally got to where I wanted to be," said VanNorman, who later anchored the Oilers' 400 relay team to a second state title later in the day. "I can't remember the last time Midwest had a champion."

ALSO: Lingle added titles in the girls triple jump and discus, while Midwest (boys) and Upton (girls) claimed the 400 relay state titles. Cokeville swept both 800 meters races.

FRIDAY: Upton senior Kevin Allen shattered his own state record in the discus, crushing his second throw of the day to the tune of 199 feet, 11 inches.

VanNorman came through on Friday with a title in the triple jump, even though he said his lower back has been bothering him since the regional weekend. VanNorman dethroned defending state champion Story Penning, a sophomore from Hulett, and said he kept his eye on Penning's marks throughout the year.

times due to lightning/weather; the final two stoppages interrupted the 400 meters preliminaries.

"I set a good goal, the all state record," said Allen, who will attempt to break the Class 1A shot put record today. "I got close to it I mean, I'd say I was pretty close. But I'm happy . I'm not disappointed."

The overall state record was still a ways away.

Either way, the Upton senior shattered his own class record on Friday at Harry Geldien Stadium with heave of 199 feet, 11 inches to win a fourth consecutive 1A title. Allen, a Utah State recruit, entered the weekend hoping to challenge the overall state mark of 210 4, set by former Cheyenne Central standout and Olympic medalist John Godina.

A couple of Oilers' firsts: A sore back wasn't going to keep Adam VanNorman from the podium.

But the Class 1A discus officials probably could have stretched the tape some on Kevin Allen's second throw of the Wyoming State High School Championships.

"They should have just given it to me," Allen joked. "I pretty much classify it as 200 [feet]. They just need to pull a little bit more."

1A high jump record, winning a second straight title on Friday with a leap of 6 feet, 7 inches.

His first three throws of the day looked like they had the distance, but the unusually calm Huaraches Mens Blue conditions weren't able to help him over the top.
