"We've watched [WCC] grow and flex, and grow," McAlpin said, adding that restructuring the way the program is run will mean new administrators must familiarize themselves with the intricacies of the grant writing process. "We're supporting them, waiting to hear what that structure's going to look like."We provide this community forum for readers to exchange ideas and opinions on the news of the day. University of Wyoming Conservation Corps lost management prior to shutdown
McAlpin said while the $128,000 granted to the program was roughly $60,000 less than the group received last year, it is not uncommonly low Nike Air Huarache Red Women's among AmeriCorps' average contributions to the program. The grant is competitive each year, meaning there is no guarantee of funding and the ultimate total varies depending on the quality of WCC's application, how many students it plans to employ and the quality of other applications WCC is competing against for the funding.
Patrick Call, UW's executive director for residence life and dining services, has been overseeing the program since the remainder of the WCC's administrative staff was terminated.
A program that employs college age students performing conservation projects on public lands lost two key administrators in the weeks leading up to the University of Wyoming's decision to suspend the program because of lack of sustainable funding, a detailleft unsaid by university officials in a statement released earlier this week.
Wyoming Conservation Corps Project Coordinator Brittany Thompson's position was terminated Nov. 21, followed shortly thereafter by Assistant Director Kendall Peacock's position Dec. 4, UW spokesman Chad Baldwin said Thursday. Their salaries combined amounted to about $85,000 annually, according to records requested by the Star Tribune.
"The most important thing to me is that he program continues," Thompson said. "If it takes some reorganization of the administration of the program to continue, then so be it. It is a priceless asset."
The camp sits on 10 acres of National Forest System lands near Centennial and includes 17 buildings and related infrastructure, according to a release from the USFS. UW plans to remove or demolish the structures, which the university has not used since 2009, the release said. Monday at the Albany County Public Library (310 8th St. in Laramie).
WCC is the state's only conservation corps, she said, and is unique among conservation corps nationwide. Thompson is aware of only one other conservation corps in the country that partners with a university; every other corps is a nonprofit, she said.

"We obviously need staffing of some sort," Baldwin said. "But we couldn't continue with the current se up, or with the set up that occurred until recently."
Thompson, WCC's former project coordinator, said she was surprised and saddened when the university informed her that her position would be eliminated. The status of the program changed on a near daily basis following the announcement, she said, waffling between whether the program Nike Air Huarache Ultra Premium
to sustain the administrators' positions in the short term.
Both positions were eliminated because of a lack of funding, Baldwin said. He pointed to a one time appropriation from the Wyoming Legislature that had recently run out, increased project costs and less money from AmeriCorps this year than in years past.
"The reason is that there was no money to pay them," Baldwin said.
Representatives from the USFS, UW and the Wyoming State Historic Preservation Office will be on hand to answer questions and take public input.

WCC sends crews of college age students to improve public lands throughout the state each summer. The program was considering a substantial fee increase for entities requesting student workers during summer 2014, but the university put the program on hold and stopped accepting applications for new projects before that increase was realized. Had the increase been implemented, Baldwin said, it would not have brought in enough revenue Huaraches White And Grey

ServeWyoming, the AmeriCorps affiliate that has helped fund WCC since 2006, released a statement Friday saying WCC accepted a $128,000 grant in September to support five work crews in 2014. Should the university employ fewer crews, as it indicated in a release Tuesday, that grant total could be affected, ServeWyoming Executive Director Shelly McAlpin said.
